FAQ

  • What must my little one wear to lessons (for babies)?

Health and safety is our major concern hence we use a double nappy system in order to avoid any accidents in the pool. We adhere strictly to the STA guidelines. Please use a disposable nappy or reusable nappy ie. Huggies swimming nappy. We recommend an outer nappy from Snappy Babes which can be purchased. These nappies come in different sizes and colours.

  • Must I be worried about submersion during the lesson and do we have to do it?

At Bumps To Babes we believe that submersion is part of the lesson but not the main activity in a baby lesson. Submersion is child led, we just provided them with all the correct tools. To put your mind at ease - your little one is born with a natural reflex, called the gag reflex, that prevents water from entering the lungs when they go under water. We work with along with this reflex.

  • When should I feed my child before swimming (for babies)?

If your little one is eating solids then you need at least 1 hour for food to digest before swimming. For little ones under 6 months maybe a little top up - but not a big feed - just before swimming. We understand if your little one is hungry they will not enjoy their swim. If possible please try to feed around 30 minutes before swims.

  • At what age should my child start swimming?

Our Teachers are qualified to teach from birth up to adults. We believe in adapting our teaching methods to the swimmers ability, age and needs in order to achieve their goals.

  • Is the pool heated?

Yes, our pool is indoors and heated. During the summer months our temperature is between 30-32 degrees. In the winter months we keep it nice and toasty at 34 degrees.

  • What immunizations does my child need to have?

No additional immunizations are needed. Your little one and yourself do need an all clear doctors certificate if the swimmer is younger than 15 weeks.

  • What if my child is ill?

Please don’t bring your little one to swimming if they have any illness eg. a temperature or sickness/diarrhea. In the case of diarrhea your little one must be clear of all the symptoms for at least 48 hours before returning to swimming. If you are returning to swimming and are concerned about any medical conditions please contact your GP first.

  • Is Bumps to Babes open on public holidays?

  • Do we have to re-enroll each term?
